Why do we often want to “eat our stress away”?

Because your brain loves quick relief buttons 😅 When you’re stressed, cortisol goes up, and food—especially sweet or fatty stuff—can boost dopamine fast and make you feel safer and calmer. Also, it’s a learned habit: if snacking helped before, your brain remembers the shortcut “stress → food → relief”.

What to do (without fighting yourself):

  • Pause for 2 minutes: ask “Am I actually hungry, or am I anxious/bored/tired?”
  • Have a Plan B: water/tea, a short walk, 10 squats, or 5 slow deep breaths.
  • Eat proper meals: under-eating makes stress cravings hit harder.

If our app tracks this 📱:

  • Use the food log and track snacks honestly—no guilt. Then check what time and after which situations cravings happen most.
  • In mood/notes, add a quick mood rating before eating (like 1–5). After a week you’ll see patterns and can plug in your “Plan B” right when you need it.
