About Calculorie

How accurate is calorie counting from a photo? πŸ“Έ

In short: super handy, but not perfectly accurate πŸ™‚

Photo-based calorie estimates are usually rough guesses (often off by Β±20–40%), because a camera can’t truly know:

  • the exact portion weight (that’s the big one!),
  • the recipe/cooking method (oil, sauces, sugar = sneaky calorie ninjas πŸ₯·),
  • what’s inside (fillings, fat %, hidden ingredients).

Still, it’s awesome for building the habit. If our app counts calories from photos, use it like this:

1) Take the pic in good lighting and capture the whole plate.

2) Review what it detected and edit (add sauces/oil/cheese manually).

3) If available, set portion size (grams/spoons/pieces). Even better: weigh one meal a day for a week to β€œcalibrate your eye.”

Pro tip: progress comes from consistency, not perfection. 80% daily beats 100% once in a while πŸ˜‰
